Texas Speed & Performance is one of the top LS-based performance shops, and we sell more LS-based short-blocks than any other shop for a reason.  We typically have 25+ short-blocks in stock, and you will not find one other shop that will stock more LS-based short-blocks than we do.  We stock varying sizes with varying components to try to have something for 98% of the customers looking for an engine.  We stock the most popular engines, including 402 cid LS2/L76 aluminum, 404/408 cid 6.0L-based iron, 416/418 cid LS3 aluminum, and 427 cid LS7 aluminum.  The vast majority of our engines will be built using Callies Compstar crank and rods, as well as Wiseco forged pistons with steel/napier ring sets.  We also do many custom-build applications for customers.  We do not offer a warranty on a mail-order engine is because we are not completing the assembly, installation, or tuning.  We have seen the common issues cause catastrophic failures.  Improper tuning can break forged internals, too.  A forged engine is much stronger than stock, but that does not mean it's bulletproof.  Our engines make excellent power, and we test everything that we sell.  This is one of the main advantages of having our own SuperFlow 902 engine dyno in-house.  We get to test what we sell, and companies such as Wiseco come to us to provide testing on prototype piston designs, new piston pins, various coatings, etc.  They KNOW that we test our products extensively, and this is the result of being the #1 purchaser of LS-based pistons from Wiseco.

We ship engines around the world to places such as the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, New Zealand, Australia, Sweden, Germany, and Iceland.  The list goes on and on.  Every short-block is machined and assembled to our strict specifications.  We do use a reputable machine shop locally to us that builds $50,000+ big-block engines for NHRA competitors.  They are not a fly-by-night operation that decided to expand the business with LS engines.  They will only machine and assemble LS engines for us.  They will not do them for any retail customers because of a mutual agreement that we have with them.  We have pictures of the engine assembly room with our engines going together next to sportsman engines for people such as NHRA pro stock racer Dave Connolly.  Why do we have the engine machine work and short-block assembly done elsewhere?  There are multiple reasons.  One is the ability to accomodate our engine sales volume.  Their operation is large enough to be able to perform all machine work and assembly in a timely manner.  Two is their existing experience in the engine business.  They are not using minimum wage guys to do any machining or assembly.  Three is top-of-the-line equipment.  They are not an entry-level company that will buy the bare minimum in equipment to get started.  Outsourcing is NOT a bad thing, and this does not mean that any areas of an engine build get overlooked.  It’s actually completely opposite of that.  You are getting a better product because the people machining and building the engine are not trying to be a salesman/business owner/shipping/receiving, etc.  They do one thing and do it well, and that is machine and build engines.  We have been building and selling LS-based engines for over seven years now, and we have not built our excellent reputation because of sub-par parts, components, or service.

Every engine built is balanced and blueprinted.  Every engine is setup with the strictest tolerances in mind.  We do not send engine build sheets unless requested because we have found clearances, particularly bearing tolerances, to be subjective.  GM will have an acceptable range for bearing tolerances, which will range from as tight as .0012” to .004”.  We have our engines setup based on what we KNOW works.  Some customers will have a different opinion on what the clearances SHOULD be, but that is the beauty of purchasing from a competent performance shop.  You do not have to worry about what they should be.  That is our job!  We will be happy to send the build sheet to any customer that requests it.  Every customer receives an itemized invoice listing every part installed on the engine, down to the coolant plugs.  Every engine we sell will come with 12 quarts of Joe Gibbs break-in oil.  This oil is what we KNOW works best to seal rings against cylinder walls.  Again, we’ve tested it.  That is the beauty of having a $65,000 engine dyno room.  We can also send customers pictures of the build process, if they so desire, as well as checking clearances.  Every engine also comes with break-in instructions, detailing the process that should take place.  It also goes over some basics of crankcase pressure, proper crankcase ventilation, etc. that is imperative to a proper engine break-in.
